Renew Your Mind

During our most recent podcast I mentioned how I sought healing and set out to re-wire my brain this year. I wanted to be able to not only retain more while I read, but also read faster. I wanted healing. I remember feeling like Forest Gump who classically said, “I may not be a smart man, but I know what love is”. So what happened?

Unfortunately, part of my testimony is divorce. More than the pain and heartache of that process, I discovered that an intense stress and emotional trauma can come over you. Since then, I have discovered that stress is one of the most significant factors to brain damage. That’s right I said, I have experienced brain damage in the form of stress. Fortunately, it is not irreparable.

Now, don’t just take my word on it. There are many skilled professionals out there and I highly suggest reading and studying their works. Thankfully as we heard last Saturday, Iron Edge Warrior Sgt. Q is a tremendous resource for us all. I love reading and listening to Dr. Caroline Leaf on the the subject. Her book Switch On Your Brain the 21 Day Brain Detox, and the corresponding Every Day devotional are very insightful and encouraging. There are others written by her and I also enjoyed Limitless by Jim Kwik which helped me more specifically with reading. But I want to let you in on a little secret… by far the most effective tool I found is, The Word of God, The Bible! The words are not cliche sayings but they have power, healing and life in them!

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” ‭‭II Timothy‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:12-13‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬&TPT

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. (Or as the passion says, a total transformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes).”

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.”

And the list goes on…. May your mind be renewed today as you read Gods powerful, healing, restoring word!
